Our students are members of a highly selective academic community. MSNE programs emphasize applied as well as theoretical aspects of materials science and nanoengineering. Many MSNE faculty members have joint appointments in other science and engineering departments, assuring a diverse program in a broad materials science field. To attain the MSMSNE degree, students must complete 30 semester hours of credit, 24 of which must be taken at Rice. Course work hours must include: 30 hrs. with B.A. 24 hrs. with B.S. 12 hrs. with 5 year B.S. 3 semesters of Instructional Assistance (grading/TA) The residency requirement is 1 full-time semester (9+ hours). Successful candidates must write and orally defend a thesis.
