We currently have 33 faculty members, plus 7 emeritus faculty members and six adjunct professors in the department. About 63 graduate students are currently studying for M.S. or Ph.D. degrees. Research in the department covers a wide range of fields, including behavioral ecology of vertebrates and invertebrates, systematics and evolution of plants and animals, population and community ecology, functional morphology and development, and conservation biology. Faculty members and graduate students work on nearly all of the major groups of organisms, including algae, mosses and lichens, aquatic plants, desert plants, tropical and temperate forest trees, the parasites of sharks and rays, insects, spiders, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Current research projects span the globe, with investigators working throughout North America, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Brazil, Borneo, Madagascar, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and many other countries.

Your transcript(s) must meet the following criteria: A cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 for your entire undergraduate career or A grade-point average of at least 3.0 for your last two undergraduate years or Exceptional work in your entire final undergraduate career (3.5 or better) or Graduate work with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 or better GRADUATE TEST SCORES Many programs require submission of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Some programs require specific GRE Subject Tests. Business programs require the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). *Please check with your intended program to confirm which test scores are required, if any. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY If you are not a native speaker of English, you must submit evidence of your proficiency in the English language. You may use the (no more than two years old) results from either one of two standardized tests to satisfy this requirement. If you submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), you need a minimum overall score of 550 for the paper-based test, or 79 for the Internet-based test. If you submit results from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), you need an average overall band score of at least 6.5. Only the scores from the Academic Module, not the General Training Module, are applicable. If you submit results from the Person Test of English (PTE) we require and overall score of 53.
