Aims Understand cutting edge conceptual debates in global urban development theory and practice, by exploring analytical approaches and relating these to operational frameworks for policy, planning and programming to promote more equitable and sustainable urban development in cities and towns of the South. Provide participants with the analytical skills to deepen their knowledge of global urban development and planning theories, as well as identifying, investigating and justifying possible solutions to problems arising out of theory and practice. This includes competency in developing reasoned arguments, finding commonalities and differences, and defending different approaches. Develop student skills in gathering, organising and using evidence and information from a wide variety of sources. This will be complemented by guidance on how best to manage workloads and obtain research materials. Enable MSc students to develop their areas of expertise through relevant research areas culminating in a dissertation.
