It includes specialist units in aircraft performance, control and structures along with optional courses covering such areas as composites, advanced aerodynamics, rotorcraft, space flight and noise. Our programme is fully accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). In the third year, students work in groups to design a new aircraft to a specification determined by industry. This involves the development of all of the technologies needed including aerodynamics, control systems, safety and airworthiness, justifying their design in commercial terms. Our programme is designed to enable you to: make a decision on your choice of final degree after you have experienced all of the options available - all five of our Mechanical Engineering degrees are based on a common programme in the first two years pursue professional careers in Aerospace engineering at a level that requires sound judgement, personal responsibility and initiative develop a detailed understanding of the principles of mechanical engineering science develop skills to apply engineering principles to produce original analyses of, and solutions to, engineering problems focus on a broad range of specialist fields within Aerospace Engineering through selected option groupings provide a high level of technical leadership use initiative, effective communication and interpersonal skills offer a wide range of subject options after the first two years; students normally proceed to become Chartered Engineers via membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
