The integrated units and modules are taught by teams including clinical practitioners, social scientists, pharmaceutical scientists, medicinal chemists and pharmacologists many of whom are leaders in their particular research fields. By teaching the various components of the programme in an integrated way students will be able understand the aetiology and progression of medical conditions, the mechanism and underlying principles of drug action, the appropriate supply and administration of medications and the principles of monitoring treatment and disease progression. Teaching is very much patient focused and throughout the four years of the MPharm programme students will undertake several placements within primary and secondary healthcare. The MPharm programme begins in part by providing grounding in human biology and origins of disease, pharmaceutical chemistry, and physical sciences. We offer additional classes in biology for those lacking a formal qualification in this area. Basic mathematics and statistics also form part of the first semester. In parallel, students will be introduced to professional practice and undertake their first clinical placements in patient facing environments. Students are also encouraged to undertake extra-curricular units, for example a foreign language. Teaching and learning Each semester consists of five units.
