Programmes are designed to enable students to develop: an understanding of the theories of chemical behaviour and how they may be applied an ability to analyse, integrate and critically evaluate new information skills in experimental chemistry design of experiments to test hypotheses. Management Studies are designed to ensure that graduates in Chemistry will be equipped with an understanding of the environment in which they work, such that they will be able to carry out the various roles required of effective managers in the chemical and related industries. In particular, the management studies aim to develop an understanding of the social, legal and economic implications of the decisions that a professional manager will be required to make. Teaching and learning The Chemistry courses at Bath provide the highest quality teaching in readiness for both chemical and non-chemical careers. The programmes of study are modular, consisting of self-contained units taught and assessed on a semester basis. As you progress through each semester and successfully pass the examinations, you will receive credit for the units you have successfully completed. Therefore, throughout your programme of study you will have a clear indication of your academic progress. Each of the chemistry course units in the first two years has two lectures, and an associated small group workshop or problem class per week. Students are also grouped into small tutorial groups of about five people and meet their tutors once a week for an hour to discuss detail and problems from the course.
