Islamic finance is presently experiencing growth rates of approximately 15-20% per annum, with predictions from rating agency Standard and Poor’s suggesting that the total number of assets controlled by Shariah compliant institutions could exceed $4 trillion. Its performance in the current recessionary climate is a good indicator of the viability of Islamic Finance on a global scale with also Western banks opening Islamic windows. Moreover, Governments around the world are introducing new bills to incorporate Islamic banks into their financial systems. The MSc Islamic Banking and Finance will provide the knowledge and analytical skill to explore and explain the principles and practices of Islamic banking and finance. A comprehensive understanding of the financial, economic and legal environments in which Islamic banking operates. Students will be involved in the critical evaluation and understanding of Islamic financial instruments and risk management issues and examine the role of the capital market and its role in providing Islamic finance.
