TOEFL The Graduate School requires a minimum internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 80, with at least 20 on each of the Speaking and Writing sections. International TA's who are required to submit TOEFL scores to enter UGA (generally, those whose native language is not English and who have not received a degree from an institution in a country where English is the primary language) must obtain a score of at least 24 on the iBT-Speaking test before they can be given classroom teaching responsibilities. Failure to meet this standard before the end of the second year of study is grounds for a reduction in TA support or an increase in non-teaching duties. Thus the Mathematics Department ordinarily expects only to admit non-native English speaking PhD applicants whose Speaking subscore is reasonably close to that threshold (i.e., 22 or higher). GRE Our admissions decisions are made using a combination of factors, including GRE scores, GPA, mathematics coursework and grades, letters of recommendation, and your personal statement. No one factor is decisive. However, the middle 80% of our entering graduate students since Fall 2010 had GRE scores in the following ranges:             Verbal: 144-164             Quantitative: 161-166             Combined V+Q: 304-328             Mathematics Subject: 580-736
