The foundation case acts as a model for the integration of scientific, medical and community aspects of disease management. Subject strands The foundation case is followed by modular units which are co-ordinated into subject strands some of which run throughout the five-year programme, ensuring continuity between the four Stages of the MBBS programme. As you progress from one Stage to the next, new information and skills are introduced which link back to the elements covered in the previous Stage. In Stage 1 these subject strands include: Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Renal Medicine Nutrition, Metabolism and Endocrinology Life Cycle Medicine in the Community Personal and Professional Development. Year 2 Subject strands Stage 1 is followed by Stage 2 which is again organised into modular units which are co-ordinated into subject strands some of which run throughout the five-year programme, ensuring continuity between the four Stages of the MBBS programme.
