This course is for you if you enjoy and excel at pure mathematics but wish to combine that knowledge with insights into the physical word and the expression of its principles in mathematics. You study the core topics of Mathematics and Physics in the first and second year and can tune the balance of the subjects through your choice of options in subsequent years. The Mathematics and Physics degrees allow you to transfer into single-subject Physics or Mathematics degrees after the first year when you have gained an insight into the nature of these subjects at university level. Teaching and learning The Mathematics and Physics degrees are jointly taught by the Department of Physics and the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The programmes are administered by the Department of Physics. We have designed a range of degree programmes that allow you to take advantage of the option to study for three, four or five years. You can choose to study to either BSc or MSci level; to include study years abroad; to include professional placements. We structure our programmes so that you do not need to make a final decision about which route to follow until well into your second year of study.
