Wireless communications is revolutionising the way we conduct our lives. Wireless technologies, from mobile phones, to WiFi and wireless sensors will not only shape our personal space but also the way business is conducted in the future. Mobile phones have evolved into smart phones capable of not only making calls but also acting as handheld computers, performing file transfers, video transfers, mobile payments, etc. Across the world the use of mobile phones is extensive, with a new era of handheld devices being the preferred device not only for communications, but also for location, sensors and even controls that can enable home automation and personal health checks. With this evolution comes increasing complexities and the need for more elaborate applications, with the capabilities of streaming greater media content and exchanging vast amounts of data in the so called 'Bid Data' paradigm. This phenomenon is not just confined to mobile network operators, but stretches to other technologies such as WiFi which are now an integral part of smart phones. Bandwidth capabilities will be provided by 4G and upcoming 5G technologies with Gigabit technologies becoming available soon. Wireless communications will require major innovations in many aspects of technological expertise, combined with with a strategic and integrated approach in order to meet emerging and future demands.
