Students either choose two modules from the suite of options and complete a standard 60-credit dissertation in one of those forms, or specialise in one form and write a 100 credit extended dissertation. The MA in Creative Writing provides a rich and diverse learning experience. It offers a significant proportion of structured teaching time and a variety of feedback styles from different tutors and guest lecturers. The primary aim of the degree is to enhance students' writing skills by providing detailed and specialised encounters with writing theory and practice. These encounters expand students awareness of the skills needed for professional practice in the creative writing industry, and the professional context in which those skills can circulate and be marketed. Teaching on ‘the writing industry’ is embedded in each optional module, providing a highly specialised preparation for professional practice and post-graduate career development. Topics include the specifics of manuscript preparation; editing and redrafting; getting published and performance opportunities. Teaching and learning methods Taught modules, which run in two sections from October to December and from February to April, consist of lectures, seminar discussion, workshops, and individual tutorials.
