新加坡国立大学中文系为亚洲地区汉学研究的一个中心，其宗旨为促进汉学与汉语学科专业的研究与教学, 为世界各个地区的学生与学人提供进修与研究的机会。中文系隶属于国大文学暨社会科学院，师资人员来自世界各地著名学府。近年来，每年都有超过1千名学生修读本系开办的各级课程。 新加坡国立大学中国文化与语言文学硕士项目是旨在为对中国文、史、哲、语，和海外华人课题感兴趣的相关领域的毕业生提供进一步深造所需的高素质综合课程。新加坡国立大学中国文化与语言文学硕士项目也为华文教师、新闻从业员及其他相关的华文文教工作者提供深造与进修的机会。
