香港中文大学崇基学院神学院之基本教育目的有三：（一）培育学生发展健全之人格，（二）充实学生之知识与灵性修养，使其能发扬基督精神，服务教会与社会，（三）提高神学研究工作水平，使神学能与其他学科交流，以促进香港，内地及海外华人社会的知识与文化之发展。<br />
香港中文大学崇基学院神学院乃现时各地华人公立大学中唯一的神学院，故除了训练教牧人才外，亦为提高一般信徒的神学质素而努力；香港中文大学神道学硕士课程既着重学术训练，亦重视属灵气质之培养；既着重群体生活，亦强调个人独立思考及自律之重要。神道学硕士课程重视学生之全人教育，故对学生之灵性及学术之修养，人生态度及社会意识方面之培育，均极关怀。各种神学研究，学术探讨，均以协助学生履行「上帝的使命」为目的。牧职之实习训练与知识探求以及灵性修养，俱同受重视；近年更致力结合临床牧关教育与神学教育之训练模式，使神学理论与实践得以结合。<br />
