Stanford University's symbol is a flagon with the school colors of Cardinal and White. The flagon represents the school's spirit of "the wind of freedom" or "the wind of truth." The Stanford seal was adopted in 1910 to symbolize the institution's purpose to seek knowledge and truth. Stanford University is known for its technology, entrepreneurship, and Silicon Valley connections. Famous Stanford graduates include Steve Jobs of Apple Inc., and both CEOs of Facebook. In 2023, it was ranked as the top university in the world for artificial intelligence.
